Country codes can often be encountered in international documents, communiques, press releases, technical documents, and even in your international travel documents. Currently, there are 195 officially recognized countries, and this number is likely to rise in the future, as the new territories obtain independence and get recognized by the international community. Each country has its own unique country code, comprised either of two letters or three letters, as specified by the most popular country code system so far ISO 3166-1.
