Degree Abbreviations

Academic degree is the title granted to the person who has successfully completed the program or course of study. Academic degrees are used as the criterion of scientists' and pedagogues' ranking in a specific branch of science at a definite career stage. They confirm the state recognition of the scientist's professional level. There exist four levels of mastership a person can achieve on his or her way to educational self-improvement. They are Associate, Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees. Associate Degree is the lowest stage in the academic hierarchy granted to students upon completion of the study in some technical, community or junior colleges. Upon achieving Associate degree, an individual has acquired special skills and knowledge to fulfill operational functions. Bachelor's degree is an academic qualification of a student who has attained complete higher professional education. Master's degree can be conferred upon a person with more profound theoretical and practical skills and knowledge who is going to make a scientific research in the chosen field.
